Henry Louis Gates among other honorary degree recipients
At the November convocation ceremonies, the following received honorary doctor of laws degrees: Jane Urquhart, award-winning Canadian author; Henry Louis Gates Jr., a leading scholar on the black experience in the United States; Louise Fréchette, United Nations deputy secretary-general; and J. Stefan Dupré, president and CEO of the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research.
In November, Mary Louise Dickson (BA 1961 Trinity), Robert Murray (BA 1960 SMC, LLB 1964) and Donald Short (BA 1970 New, LLB 1973) received the Award for Distinguished Service from the Canadian Bar Association – Ontario.
Adam Goddard (BMus 1997) co-produced “A Change in Farming,” which won the prestigious Prix Italia award in the radio documentary category.
Larry Wasserman (BA 1983 New, MSc 1985, PhD 1988) received the Presidents’ Award as the outstanding statistician age 40 or younger from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies.
