Malcolm McGrath Retires

Assistant engineering dean helped start U of T Day and established the Leaving Class Pledge

Malcolm McGrath (BASc 1954), assistant dean (alumni liaison) at the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering, retired at the end of April after 19 years with the faculty. He initiated a number of programs and leaves behind many musical memories.

McGrath helped start U of T Day, the university’s annual campus-wide open house. He also increased annual giving to engineering tenfold and established the Leaving Class Pledge (now known as GRADitude and implemented at almost all faculties). Equally dedicated to his musicianship, he regularly played the organ at the faculty’s convocation ceremonies. McGrath will stay involved at the faculty’s planned giving office three days a week.
