Canada Post began the new century by honouring some outstanding Canadians on commemorative postage stamps. Several distinguished U of T alumni were included, among them Archibald Gowanlock Huntsman (BA 1905 UC, MB 1907, MD 1933, LLD Hon. 1969). One of Canada’s pre-eminent marine biologists, he did research on Atlantic salmon that continues to stimulate investigation. In 1973, the zoology department named its research library after him, and this spring, the first A.G. Huntsman Award will be given to an outstanding zoology graduate student. More than $64,000 was raised by family and friends of the department to establish the award.
