Researchers to study how new immigrants overcome difficulties and settle in Canada

New immigrants to Canada will be the beneficiaries of a $1-million gift from K.K. Leung, who initiated a chair in multiculturalism at the Faculty of Social Work. The university has matched the donation, creating a $2-million endowment. The Dr. K.K. Leung and Sons Social Work Chair in Multiculturalism will enable researchers to study how new immigrants overcome difficulties and settle successfully in Canada. Since Toronto is rich in cultural diversity, researchers at the university are well positioned to study policies and programs that address the needs of the country’s many ethno-racial communities. “Not everyone has a family member in Canada to help. I want to make sure that new immigrants get the help they need,” says Dr. Leung, a retired businessman and banker.
