Aid to Understanding

$1-million gift will support the study of our southern neighbour

The U of T Centre for the Study of the United States (CSUS) is becoming a Canadian leader in scholarly examination of our neighbour to the south, thanks to a gift of over $1.5 million from the Associates of the University of Toronto Inc. The Associates is a non-profit organization that secures donations for U of T from American residents, corporations and foundations.

“Our latest gift to the university is the culmination of the Associates’ long-standing partnership with the Faculty of Arts and Science, and our support for American studies,” says Paul Cadario (BASc 1973), president of the Associates. “As the world becomes more global in nature, it becomes increasingly important for each nation to understand the economic and social forces outside its own borders. The need for understanding is particularly great for the United States and Canada, neighbours who share the world’s longest unprotected border and are far and away each other’s largest trading partners.” The bulk of the gift – $1 million – will endow the centre’s directorship.
