Anca Liliana Cismaru captures a gem of the Alps

During a trip to Valais, Switzerland in the summer of 2012, fourth-year student Anca Liliana Cismaru encountered a chamois – a large-sized goat-antelope native to the European mountains – on her climb down from the Aletsch Glacier in the Alps. “It’s very rare to see an animal in such a rocky landscape, and at such a high altitude,” says Cismaru, a nature and wildlife photographer. “It was very overwhelming.”

Cismaru is currently completing her final year in human biology and immunology at the University of Toronto, and photography has always been very meditative for her. “I love to observe nature,” she says. “And when I do, time just stands still.”
