A Photographer within a Photograph

Andra-Beatrice Stefanescu adds an element of peculiarity to her work

This image was taken last October near Webster’s Falls in Hamilton, Ontario, at the peak of the fall colours. Most photographers were focused on capturing a piece of nature to take home, but Andra-Beatrice Stefanescu (MA 2012) intended on a slightly different kind of composition.

Just as Stefanescu was about to add another scenic view of the Falls to her photo album, she noticed a group of visitors doing the exact same thing – and decided to take a photo of them instead. “I thought it would be interesting to add a layer of peculiarity to the image,” says Stefanescu, a travel photographer. “They were photographing nature, and I was photographing them in the act.”
