Tim Bermingham plays with light to capture incredible feats of athleticism and strength
Tim Bermingham (BA 1976 Trinity) began his quest for enlightenment seven years ago, taking up the practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga. A partner at a successful Toronto law firm, he is also the legal counsel for Trinity College at U of T. He believes his law practice is strengthened by his interest in literary and visual arts, and by the physical and mental discipline of yoga.
Bermingham also maintains a semi-professional photography practice in Toronto’s Liberty Village; in many cases he requests that his subjects make a donation to Princess Margaret Hospital in lieu of paying him a fee.
People—and athletes in particular—are his favorite subject for photos. This minimally edited photo features two extraordinarily strong and gifted yoga practitioners and teachers, Amica Hilton and Geoffrey Wiebe. “This pose explores the ways in which very differently proportioned bodies can work together and support each other in extremely challenging poses. A further goal of the photo is to communicate stillness,” Bermingham says.
