Finding calm amid the swirling storm at a festive City Hall

Photo of ice rink and Toronto sign at Nathan Phillips Square during Cavalcade of Lights, with skaters blurred and a man appearing clearly at the bottom right

When Randy Landicho (BA 2012 UTM), a communications and social media assistant at U of T Mississauga, attended the annual Cavalcade of Lights at Nathan Phillips Square in 2015, it was to take long-exposure photos of the fireworks, the festive display and the flurry of activities on the ice rink.

Setting the aperture for an exposure of several seconds, he snagged the above shot. He calls it a “small miracle” that the man at the bottom right is clearly visible: “It means he stayed mostly still for the whole exposure.”

Check out some of Landicho’s other beautiful “public moments” on his Instagram feed and Flickr photostream
