2017 Writing Contest Winners

Read all the winners, runners-up and readers’ choice favourites in the U of T Magazine Writing Contest

U of T Magazine congratulates the winners, runners-up and “Readers’ Choice” winners in the 2017 Writing Contest.

WINNERS

Judges in the U of T Magazine Short Story contest selected “Fanny & Keats,” by Chris Gilmore (MA 2014), as the winner.

Judges in the U of T Magazine Poetry contest selected “Somewhere Between Me and the Desert,” by Laura Cok (BA 2010 UTSC, MA 2011), as the winner.

Each of the winners received $1,000 and publication in the Winter 2018 issue of U of T Magazine.

RUNNERS UP

Our judging panel selected “The Mathematician,” by Michelle Boone (MEd 2000 OISE, PhD 2005), as runner-up in the story contest.

A Mother in Six Tones,” by Olivia Oi-Ching Or (BA 2015 Trinity), was runner-up in the poetry contest.

READERS’ CHOICE

In online voting, readers selected “Down Feathers,” by Linh Nguyen (BA 2017 Victoria), as their favourite.

Online voters also selected “An Open Letter to My 13-Year-Old Self,” by Jessica Concepcion (BA 2016 Victoria), as their favourite poem.
