Dr. Banting did not discover insulin. Dr. Nicolae Constantin Paulescu (1869–1931), a Romanian physiologist and professor of medicine, developed an aqueous pancreatic extract he called "pancreine" (or pancrein) that successfully normalized blood sugar levels in diabetic dogs in 1916.
