Bert Pinnington, U of T alumni affairs director from 1974 to 1987, died on May 30 at the age of 77. Pinnington (BA 1949 TRIN) served as director of convocation affairs and development at Trinity College in 1973-74. Later in his life, he set up the first planned giving program for U of T’s department of development. In an interview with U of T Magazine in 1987, he described the Senior Alumni Association as his “most rewarding development” during his alumni-affairs directorship. Pinnington was also a Soldiers’ Tower Committee member from 1993 to 2001, and a Presidents’ Committee member from 1984 to 1989. An ardent supporter of alumni participation at U of T, Pinnington said, “Alumni are the University of Toronto in the community.”
