Opera Star Wins $25,000 Prize

Measha Brueggergosman among several grads to win awards recently

Rising opera star Measha Brueggergosman (BMus 1999) won the $25,000 first prize at the inaugural Jeunesses Musicales singing competition in Montreal in June.

Kamala-Jean Gopie (BA 1975 WOODS, MEd 1990) received a 2002 Women of Distinction Award from the YWCA of Greater Toronto for her volunteer work in human rights.

The second annual Barclays Global Investors Canada Ltd. Research Award went to Kai Li (PhD 1996), an assistant professor of finance at the University of British Columbia, for her paper on global equity markets.

John Geddes (BA 1984 UC), Ottawa bureau chief at Maclean’s, is the new Martin Wise Goodman Canadian Nieman Fellow. The Nieman program supports journalists in mid-career for one year of study at Harvard University.

The Ontario Association of Architects awarded Salter Farrow Pilon Architects Inc. the 2002 Innovative Practice Award. Tye Farrow (BArch 1987) co-founded the firm in 1998.
