Scarborough campus students go bald to raise money for cancer research

Students and campus police at U of T at Scarborough (UTSC) had a clear-cut mission behind their third annual Cops for Cancer head-shaving event in April: to raise money for cancer research. Between pledges, a raffle table and refreshment sales, seven students and seven officers raised $5,400 – surpassing their goal of $4,000 – for the Scarborough unit of the Canadian Cancer Society. “We paired each student with an officer, and there was a friendly competition to see who could raise more,” says UTSC corporal Chris Charalambous, the leading fundraiser with $1,080. “We’re just one small piece of the puzzle,” he adds, “but we’re thrilled with the response to our local efforts.”
