Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards were recently presented to two U of T alumni. Renowned filmmaker Norman Jewison (BA 1949 VIC) earned a lifetime artistic achievement award in recognition of his contributions to the film industry, including his role in founding the Canadian Film Centre in Toronto.
Sandra Pitblado (BA 1983) and her husband, Jim Pitblado, received the Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Voluntarism in the Performing Arts for their longtime commitment to advocacy, leadership and fundraising for the arts in Canada. Among the many organizations that have benefited from the couple’s time and energy are the National Ballet, the Stratford Festival and the Tarragon Theatre.
