The Artful Annie

Collaborative fine art program offered by UTM and Sheridan College

The name Annie Smith has become highly visible at both U of T and Sheridan College. Smith (PhD 1980) is an adjunct professor in art and art history at the University of Toronto at Mississauga (UTM). In June, alumni and faculty established the annual Annie Smith Scholarship. Last fall, Sheridan College named its new studio-art building the Annie Smith Art Centre. Smith has been a driving force behind the collaborative fine art program offered by UTM and Sheridan. “As a student what I remember most was her unrelenting dedication,” says Denyse Thomasos (BA 1987 UTM), an artist and assistant professor at Rutgers University in Newark, N.J.
