U of T Ranked 20th in the World

University also named tops in Canada in all disciplines

The University of Toronto ranks best in Canada and 20th in the world, according to both the 2014 Times Higher Education and QS World University Rankings.

Since 2011, U of T has consistently placed in the top 25 internationally. The Times Higher Education report ranked U of T 8th among public universities, while QS put U of T at 13th overall for academic reputation. The QS report also ranked U of T first in Canada in all discipline areas: arts and humanities; engineering and technology; life sciences and medicine; natural sciences; and social sciences and management.

“We are pleased to be recognized once again as the premier university in Canada, and to be named among the world’s very best,” says Meric Gertler, U of T’s president. “Our continued strong performance is a testament to our world-class education and research, as well as the excellence of our faculty, staff and students.”

In another set of international rankings that measure scientific performance, U of T placed fourth place in the world – and first in Canada. U of T and University of Oxford were the only non-American institutions to place in the top 10, and it’s the first time U of T has been named to the top 5. These rankings — released by National Taiwan University — are based on indicators representing research productivity, research impact and research excellence.

In August, U of T was named the top institution in Canada and 24th globally by Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Academic Ranking of World Universities.
