A skating rink was created on the front campus in January, the result of the vision and determination of third-year student Peter MacLeod, who thought an outdoor rink would be a good solution to his urban art assignment. MacLeod, a student of political science, English and fine art, built and maintained the 15,000-square-foot, doughnut-shaped rink with the help of other students and U of T’s grounds crew. Financial assistance was provided by alumni, students and administration. He received an A for his assignment, but that is not the end of the project – he is already hoping to gather support to fund the project again next winter.
