A 70-year hiatus did not diminish the friendship between former University College classmates Mabel Sutherland Turnbull (BA 1929) and Walter (Pete) Jackson (BA 1929). After reuniting at U of T’s Spring Reunion in 1999, they renewed their bond with visits and weekly phone calls, and even saw their children strike up a friendship. And when it came time for their 75th year class anniversary at Spring Reunion in June, they attended together. Turnbull, 94, and Jackson, 99, enjoyed many of the event’s festivities, including a dinner at University College and the garden party at U of T President Robert J. Birgeneau’s residence. The two also attended a ceremony at Hart House where they received Chancellor’s Circle medals, given to those celebrating their 55th, 60th, 65th, 70th, 75th or 80th anniversary of graduation.
