Claire Stephenson, who was perhaps the oldest alumna to earn a U of T degree, died on Dec. 31, 2000, at the age of 92. Mrs. Stephenson was thrilled to receive her bachelor’s degree in English in 1995 at the age of 87, recalls her daughter, Trinity College alumni director Sandy Brown (BA 1960 TRIN).
Stephenson started taking one or two courses a year, under a seniors program, in 1983-59 years after she left school at age 16 to support her family. She was extremely grateful for the chance to attend university, says Brown.
