The fifth and largest U of T Hong Kong convocation was held on Dec. 7 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Hong Kong. More than 110 U of T graduates living in Hong Kong and the surrounding areas received their degree at the special ceremony attended by 800 guests.
Senator Vivienne Poy (MA 1997, PhD 2003), President Robert J. Birgeneau (BSc 1963 St. Mike’s) and Jon Dellandrea (BA 1973 SCAR, MEd 1980, EdD 1987), U of T’s vice-president and chief advancement officer, presided over the occasion. The event was open to both 2002 and 2003 graduates, regardless of whether they attended a convocation ceremony in Toronto.
Hong Kong is home to a large concentration of U of T grads, with an estimated 8,000 to 10,000 alumni living in the region. The university held its first Hong Kong convocation in 1996.
