One hundred years ago: U of T’s combination swimming and water polo team of 1913. |
1920s: Both water polo (pictured in 1925) and swimming were popular. University College had a stranglehold on the intermural competition. |
1930s: T-Holder trophies were awarded for the first time, including one to Eddie Sinclair, front centre in this 1931 photo. |
1940s: The yearbook listed Varsity athletes serving in the war, including 15 swimmers. The 1944 team is pictured. |
1950s: The 1954 men’s swim team show off their monogrammed bathrobes. |
1960s: The 1963 championship team included Tom Verth (back row, third from left), who broke six Canadian swimming records while at U of T. |
1970s: U of T’s swimming streak at the provincial championships was in full swing. The men’s team took the top prize every year from 1961 to 1989. No wonder this 1972 team is smiling! |
